It was the time to celebrate our 2nd marriage anniversary! As we were suffering a bit financial crunch to run our family at that time, Madhumita told me not to celebrate the occasion that time. However, a specific idea was constantly tingling my mind! The beautiful lady, who never left my hand when I was literally struggling to get some foods on the table, definitely deserved some royal treatment for that very day.
It was 09:30 PM in the evening – I requested her to prepare at least 10/12 cups of coffee and finally to pour it into the flask. She was quite astonished about this request, as it had never happened before. Within 30 minutes, the flask was full and I finally made the announcement that, we would be going to somewhere inside our state right now but literally didn’t know about the destination at all! I would never forget the smile, that appeared on her face after I made that announcement, in my entire life! We packed our bags very quickly and hopped into our vehicle 10 minutes before our proposed time to start the journey.
After performing a cold start, we began our journey exactly at 01:01 AM and decided to visit the famous Maithon Water Reservoir, roughly 230 kilometres (143 miles) away from our rented house at that time. It is located in the border of two states in India, viz. Jharkhand & West Bengal; and is a very famous picnic cum tourist spot in the state of West Bengal! The sky was dark and full of stars, when our vehicle, a Tata Tiago XT Hatchback was roaring over the Durgapur Expressway! We took a small coffee break at around 03:00 AM after crossing the Durgapur city and finally reached our first destination at around 04:30 AM in the morning. It was indeed too early and the sky was still dark! Though it was a bit risky, we slept inside our car for around 1.5 hours as we didn’t have anything to do or see at that moment.
It was around 06:00 AM in the morning when we woke up. It was the time to explore the beauty of the Maithon Water Reservoir! Built over the Barakar River, the Maithan Dam is around 5 kilometres long and 50 meters high, which is the first of it’s kind in the whole South-East Asia. It has an underground power station, which is capable to produce 60 MW of electricity. It’s indeed a true example of extreme engineering inside our motherland! Observing the sun-rays kissing the super-huge water reservoir beside the dam, our mind became completely fresh to start the day!
We were at Maithon now – where to head next? We decided to visit the nearby Panchet Water Reservoir. As it was just 17 kilometres (11 miles) away from Maithon Water Reservoir, we reached there in just 30-35 minutes. It’s a similar reservoir, but is built over the Damodar River. While driving over the dam, the moon was visible on the western side of the sky as a pale white spot!
While leaving from Panchet, we thought that, we would be visiting Garh Panchkot, a place of huge historical importance in the state of West Bengal. I was a bit afraid as I didn’t sleep the entire night. It’s really not safe to drive when you don’t have adequate sleep in the last night! Then, my lovely wife came to the rescue! She told me to splash some water in my eyes. I felt a little fresh after doing so!
Though we never had any such plan about making videos on YouTube at that time, we somehow managed to prepare one after 1 year of this trip using the archived clips from our car’s dash camera. We are providing the link of that video below for your reference. Next time, whenever we’ll be visiting this place again, we’re promising you that, we’ll be bringing up a much better video, compared to this one. Thank you for reading this blog, please stay tuned for the next one!
